Climb to the top of this towering 315-foot monolith located on the very edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains high above beautiful Hickory Nut Gorge. At a soaring elevation of 2,280 feet with its 75-mile views, this mountain top experience will take your breath away. The easiest way to reach the Chimney is to ride the elevator up a 26-story shaft which was blasted through solid granite. The cool 198-foot tunnel to the elevator stays a comfortable 55-65 degrees year round. You'll get a brief introduction to the Park from the elevator operator on your way up to the Sky Lounge.

However you reach the Falls, it's well worth the effort. From the top, it's a spectacular vertical drop of 404 feet. From below, it's a cool, refreshing stop. Hickory Nut Falls, one of the highest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River, can be reached by hiking along the Skyline-Cliff Trail Loop to its top or by taking the gentler walk via the Forest Stroll to a platform at its bottom. Get a majestic perspective of the Falls from Peregrine's Rest on the Skyline Trail, or Inspiration Point along the Cliff Trail.
